Suitability
Am I suitable for clear aligners?
Most mild to moderate concerns such as crowding, spacing, minor bite issues, and relapse are suitable. If you're unsure and want to get an idea about your suitability before committing to a 3D scan or impression kit, feel free to send our team some photos of your teeth/bite and we'll advise you on whether aligners might be right for you.
Do I need healthy gums and teeth before starting?
Yes. Any active decay or gum disease should be managed by your dentist first. A quick dental exam/clean prior to starting is recommended for best results.
What if I'm not suitable?
Every case is reviewed by an Australian-registered dentist before aligners are approved for treatment.
Most customers who reach this stage are suitable, but in some cases, treatment may not be appropriate based on your clinical assessment.
If this happens, you will receive a full refund minus a $250 clinical review fee. This fee covers the cost of your personalised treatment planning and professional assessment by our dental team.
Can I treat complex bite issues?
Complex movements require in-person orthodontic care, so remote aligners are not suitable for these. We’ll outline limits during planning and can refer you to a partner clinic if needed.
Can teens use Jawology aligners?
We currently treat teens 15 years or older (and require parental consent if under the age of 18).
Aligners
How does treatment work day-to-day?
Wear your aligners 20–22 hours/day, removing them for eating and brushing. You’ll switch to the next set every 1–2 weeks as directed in your plan.
How do i clean aligners?
Rinse with lukewarm water and brush gently with a soft brush. Avoid hot water. Use approved cleaning foam or tablets if desired.
How long will my treatment take?
Typical cases take 4–9 months. Complexity, compliance, and refinements can affect total time. Your preview shows an estimated timeline upfront.

What if I lose or crack an aligner?
Contact us via DentalMonitoring or support. We’ll review your progress and advise whether to move forward, go back a set, or order a replacement.
Can I whiten during treatment?
Many patients safely whiten during treatment. We’ll advise compatible products/timing so your aligners remain clear and comfortable.
Does it hurt?
You may feel pressure or mild tenderness when changing to a new set. This usually settles within 24–48 hours and is a sign of movement.

Scans & Monitoring
What's the difference between 3D Scan and Impression Kit?
A 3D in-clinic scan captures your teeth digitally in minutes. The at-home Impression Kit uses trays and putty you return to us. Both produce accurate records, however some customers have to re-do impressions for accuracy. Following instructions carefully minimises the chance of this.
How often are remote check-ins?
Typically every 7–14 days depending on your plan. The app will prompt you when it’s time to scan and alerts our team if anything needs attention.
What equipment do I need?
Just your smartphone and the ScanBox® (included where specified). Good lighting helps produce clear photos for accurate monitoring.
Can I switch from impressions to a clinic scan later?
Yes - if we need extra detail or you prefer, we can arrange a 3D scan at a partner clinic and update your records accordingly.
How does DentalMonitoring work?
You’ll use the ScanBox® and your phone to send regular check-ins. Our team reviews progress remotely and lets you know when to change to the next set or adjust.
Do I need to visit a clinic during treatment?
Some patients can complete treatment remotely, however it is highly recommended that you allow attachments/IPR to be included in your case for an ideal outcome. Appointments for scans + ipr/attachments can be arranged easily via ourLocations page.
Account Info
What are attachments?
Small, tooth-coloured bumps bonded to teeth to help aligners grip and move predictably. They’re removed after treatment and are barely noticeable.
Where are these done?
Any in-clinic procedures like attachments or IPR are done at a partner clinic (and in some cases, a local dental clinic that is willing to do this). We’ll help schedule you if required.
What is IPR?
Interproximal reduction (IPR) gently polishes between teeth to create tiny amounts of space for alignment. It’s quick and minimally invasive when indicated.
Do these add extra cost?
Typically our partner locations provide IPR at $25 per tooth and attachments at $25 per attachment - please see our locations page for exact pricing.
Will I definitely need attachments or IPR?
Attachments and IPR will improve your final result significantly - although some cases can be completed without these. We'll recommend them for you if they are required to achieve an ideal outcome.
Can I decline attachments/IPR?
We’ll respect your preference and advise how it may affect outcomes or duration. Your plan can be adjusted accordingly.
Retainers & Aftercare
Do I need retainers after treatment?
Yes. Retainers maintain your new alignment. You’ll wear them nightly (or as advised). Options include removable and, where available, fixed retainers at a clinic.
What if my teeth shift after treatment?
Contact us for an assessment. Minor relapse can often be corrected with shorter additional treatments. Wearing retainers nightly or having a fixed retainer installed helps prevent this.
Are retainers included?
One set of removable retainers are included with every aligner treatment pack. Replacements can be purchased later if needed - and fixed retainers can be placed through a partner clinic (these are an additional charge paid to the clinic).
How do I clean my retainers?
Rinse with lukewarm water, brush gently, and use approved cleaning products. Avoid hot water and harsh chemicals.
How long do retainers last?
With good care, retainers last many months. Over time, natural wear occurs - we recommend replacing your set at least every 6 months or so (as long as proper hygiene has been maintained).
Can I get new retainers later?
Yes. Order replacement retainers through us or have a fixed retainer placed at a partner clinic. We’ll guide you on fit and delivery.
Warranty & Support
What guarantee do you offer?
We stand behind your outcome with a treatment guarantee. If your teeth don’t track to plan, we’ll reassess and outline refinement options to get you back on course.
Additionally, if aligners break or if there is any fault with any product included in the treatment pack, we will replace it free of charge as per Australian consumer law.
What's your refund/cancellation policy?
We aim to keep our refund and cancellation process as clear and fair as possible.
After you've approved your plan + signed your consent form a professional clinical review is conducted.
If you choose to cancel before your case has been clinically reviewed or treatment planning has begun, you may be eligible for a full refund.
Most cases that reach clinical review are suitable for treatment. However, in rare cases where treatment is not clinically appropriate, a full refund will be issued minus a $250 clinical assessment fee, which covers the time and expertise of your clinical reviewer.
After aligners have been manufactured, refunds are not available.
For full details, please refer to our Terms of Service.
Are refinements included?
Refinements are included in the overall cost, when clinically indicated. We advise on the suitability of these case-by-case.
Do you ship Australia-wide?
Yes - we ship Australia-wide. Delivery times depend on your location; you’ll receive tracking details.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes - we ship to other countries. Delivery times depend on your location; typically 3-8 days. You’ll receive tracking details.
How do I get help during treatment?
Message us through DentalMonitoring or email our team anytime. For in-clinic needs, we’ll coordinate with a partner clinic.
How do I book in-clinic services?

If there are no clinics nearby, contact us for assistance in finding a clinic willing to assist.
Warranty & Support
What night guard is right for me?
If you're unsure, the mixed is the safest choice - it suits most moderate grinders and balances comfort with durability. Light grinders or first-time wearers typically do well with Soft. If you've been told by a dentist you grind heavily or have worn through guards before, go Hard.
How long does a night guard last?
Soft guards typically last 6–12 months. Mixed guards last 1–2 years. Hard guards can last 2–3 years or more with proper care. How long yours lasts depends on grinding severity and how well you clean and store it.
How do i clean my night guard?
Lower arch is generally recommended as most people find it more comfortable and easier to adapt to. Either works - it comes down to personal preference and your dentist's advice if you've had one.
How is a night guard different from a sports mouth guard?
Night guards are thinner and designed for prolonged, low-force wear during sleep. Sports mouth guards are built for high-impact protection and are too thick and bulky to sleep in comfortably. They serve different purposes and aren't interchangeable.
Can I wear a night guard if I have crowns, veneers or dental work?
In many cases yes. Custom night guards can accommodate crowns and veneers. If you have implants or significant recent dental work, we recommend checking with your dentist or contacting us before ordering.
