Treating an Overbite with Clear Aligners
What causes an overbite, when to treat it, and how Jawology's clear aligners can help correct it - from the comfort of home.
What is an Overbite?
An overbite - sometimes called a "deep bite" is one of the most common dental misalignments in Australia. It occurs when the upper front teeth overlap the lower front teeth more than they should. A small amount of overlap (around 2–3mm) is completely normal. When the overlap exceeds this, it's considered a malocclusion that may need attention.

Reasons for overbite treatment
Here's why you should treat it.
Tooth wear
Excessive overlap causes abnormal contact and accelerated enamel wear on the lower front teeth.
Gum damage
In severe cases, lower teeth can bite into the upper gum line, causing irritation or recession.
Jaw pain & TMJ
A deep bite stresses the jaw joint, contributing to TMJ disorders, headaches, and facial tension.
Speech difficulties
Some overbites affect how certain sounds are produced, impacting confidence in social situations.
Self-confidence
A pronounced overbite can impact how people feel about their smile and overall facial appearance.
Long-term oral health
Misaligned teeth are harder to clean, increasing the risk of plaque buildup and gum disease.
